It is still important today. If you are arrested it gives you equal protection and prevents citizens from being held illegally deprived of life, liberty, or property. It also provides for due process which means if you aren't given the correct information or order of events like reading of Rights ( Miranda decision comes from this) the arrest hasn't followed due process.
