By crossing Georgia virtually unopposed, they had demonstrated that the Confederacy was dying on its feet.
South Carolina was the state that had started the whole war, and Sherman was keen to start punitive raids on SC, confident that the small Confederate army under Hardee, which had escaped there, was no threat to him.

There are couple of things that could happen to you. You could "wash out" and be sent home, or if you have good potential and your instructor and commander see that, they may "go to bat" for you and see if you can retrain into a different career field. It would finally have to come down to your commander and instructors in Tech Training. But on the other side, if you are gungho about the military, after 6 months of being out, you can try enlisting in a different Service.
