It really does depend on if it has had any previous injuries. I'm not a professional, but I do have a passion for animals. I would say, it could have tripped on something is the most likely answer. But if it had been bit by some animal than a disease could be in it's leg, possibly rabies (if it is rabies, it will not go near water, foaming mouth etc etc). Make sure you take it to the vet ASAP.
