The medications used for the treatment of pinworm are either mebendazole, pyrantel pamoate, or albendazole. These medications all have the same active ingredients – ivermectin and pyrantel pamoate. Tapeworm infections are preventable.

Pyrantel Pamoate 4.45 mg should not be given to a puppy. This amount should only be given to a dog or cat that is at least a year old and weighs more than 2.5 to 5 mg per pound. Give a dose and then repeat in three weeks.
