In the United States, about 2,000 new veterinarians graduate every year. There are shortages of large animal veterinarians in rural areas such as the Great Plains and the mountains. but there is also a problem finding enough work to maintain a viable veterinary practice. Also, the federal government is always looking for veterinarians to work as slaughter house inspectors, although you may have to move across several states to take a position. Veterinarians are also highly sought after in the military, in other agencies in the government, in academia and research, and by large industries such as pharmaceutical companies.
