I was worried about the same thing "That Bastard! He killed my companion! And my Dog!" However, Colonel Autumn and the rest of the Enclave didn't even touch them. Wherever you got your companion at, after being captured they go back to that place. I know for a fact that this works for Charron, the ghoul in underworld, he's waiting back in Azzrakahl's bar. As for your dog, he's waiting at Vault 101 for you to come and pick him up. As for the other capable companions they must be waiting for you in other places.
the dog you can apparently get.
Yes, the character known as Dogmeat, who was originally in the first Fallout game and can be a companion in Fallout 3, is also in Fallout 2. There is a hidden room in Junktown in Fallout 2 inside the Cafe of Broken Dreams, where you'll find him.
No. Dogmeat doesn't count as a companion. You can have only one companion that can use weapons.

Go to the companion wheel, its in the top left quarter. It should be "Change to melee/long-rang weapon. You can now alternate and change what type of weapons your companion uses.
Unfortunately you can't besides using some sort of mod other than that he isn't actually a companion he may appear beside you from time to time and will help you out most the time he is not able to be recruited as a companion
Due east of Meresti Trainyard or West of the Scrapyard where you can find Dogmeat (companion, not item).
You must hire Arcade Gannon as a companion. You can find Arcade with The Followers area inside Freeside.
