In the Advance version for GBA, yes, you can. You can go to the Tower of Prayer in Mysidia after you complete the main plot, and you can change your party to include some of the temporary characters who joined during the game. There is some post-game content that gives them new items, and a bonus dungeon to use the characters in.
However, in the originals, none of those features were applied, and the DS remake does not include them.
