Can you play rock band on a xbox360 controller inplace of a guitar?

okay so i just got the game from gamefly today. i went upstairs put it in and started up a song, but it only gives you the option to use the mic, not a controller. i cant figure out if there is a way to toggle to a guitar instead of the mic cause i only have a standard xbox360 controller. I'm gonna be extremely mad if it doesn't work because im a beast at controller hero.

there is a bar of colors at the botom when that color comes down u hit that color butun on the guitar when it lines up with the color bar down below and at the main menu go to traning,trilels

No. You can only use your normal mic and play vocals, you have to get a guitar or drums to play anything but vocals.
