This happened to me. When you create your Xbox Live Gamertag make sure you are logged in with your standard Gamertag. Complete the process to make the account and everything will be exactly the same as it was before but ur xbox live gamertag will takeover your offline Gamertag. It will have all your old game files and achievements, the name will be different.

You can't. Purchases are tied to the Gamertag and console. If you purchased it under your Gamertag, you can try to transfer the licenses: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemuse/xbox360/licensemigration/faq.htm If you purchased it under his Gamertag, you will have to purchase the songs again for yourself.

It takes so long because it has to recover achievements and anything linked to your account, such as purchase liscences, so the more achievements and things you bought the longer it will take.....i think
