According to Twilight, you feel an exruciating pain, like your body is being subjected to a fire, and is burning all over, which eventually subsides in everywhere but your throat, which indicates you are hungry, but never quite goes away.
Some stories say that vampires are born vampires, so there would be no pain, and vampires cannot physically be made by biting or any other method apart from generating offspring.
Other stories about being bitten don't show any signs of pain being caused, but some indicate that death is temporarily mimicked, or a coma-like state is taken on for a few days (See Night World by L.J. Smith)
Stories about swapping blood also don't say there is any pain, but it feels good.
Any age, you can be born a vampire or you can be turned into one!
Vampires are not real?!? You don't need a vampire to turn you. Just get a friend or a family member to twist you around.

Unfortunetly, Real life vampires are nothing like the sterio typical ones you find in fictional books and movies. There are two types of vampire. 1. Sanguinarian - This vampire feeds off blood. It gets the blood at medical resources from consenting donors. The blood is tested for HIV and blood disease. 2. Psychic - A psychic vampire feeds off energy. There is a thrid type named a 'Hybrid.' This vampire is a conbination between a sanguinarian and a psychic. You cannot be 'turned' into a vampire. You are born a vampire. There are certain things you can study and learn about the lifestyle and culture of a vampire. You can talk to other vampires or study 'The Awakening.' This is when you realize you are a vampire. Other vampires may be able to help you 'awaken.'

Yes the Vampire Lestat has done this at least twice that I know of.
In fictional lore, being bitten by a vampire may result in becoming a vampire yourself or experiencing various effects depending on the specific story. However, in reality, being bitten by a vampire would not have any supernatural implications as vampires do not exist. It would be important to seek medical attention for any wound caused by a bite.
no they do not because it makes them fell bad
Unfortunately, it is not possible to become a vampire through any means other than being bitten by one according to folklore and legend. Trying to become a vampire through other methods can be dangerous and is not advised.
In the books, Damon and Stefan exchange blood with her, she dies and then becomes a vampire, but since the TV Show hasn't really followed the books at all that much, some blogs are saying that she won't turn in the Show. The newest episode certainly doesn't show any signs of her even wanting to become a vampire, anyway
