Yes, you will need software. There are a couple of different music games, those being: Wii Music - this has "air insturments" and is very kiddie, all Nintendo and public domain songs. Not recomended. Cheapest. Guitar Hero: World Tour - Game comes with full rock band (Microphone, Guitar and Drums), and has freestyle zone to play drum in. Very fun game.
