Trees do not hibernate in the same way animals do, but they do enter a state of dormancy during the winter months. In this period, trees conserve energy and reduce their metabolic activities in response to colder temperatures and reduced sunlight. They shed their leaves in autumn to minimize water loss and protect themselves from harsh conditions. This dormancy allows trees to survive until the warmer spring months when they can resume growth.
