Does video games encourage violent behaviour?

Some might, but most Video Games vary.

for instance there is Madworld which is bloody, and there is Mario Kart which is fun and kid friendly, in my opinion video games vary!

Yes, they can, but it really depends on the person watching them and their own mental vulnerabilities. If someone is incapable of separating actual violence in their minds from the violence they see and interact with in games and movies, it can potentially cause problems for them. For instance, some who may spend hours playing a game where they shoot and kill others, might roll their eyes and consider it nothing to see a real person's shooting death on the news and may be far too desensitized to care anymore. This could lead to problems in their future if they are prone to violence themselves. This doesn't mean every person who watches violent movies or plays violent games will become violent. It just means that some who are more vulnerable, could be influenced greatly by them. Either to commit violence themselves, or to be apathetic (uncaring of real people being harmed), which can be just as dangerous.

Depends on your point of view. Since they steralize a mind from horrific gore no, but yet in the hands of a normal individual knowing the difference between right and wrong its all just good fun.

That's been debated over and over again, and no one has found a solid answer. Violence in stories has been around for ages, even The Bible has its fair share of carnage. A reasonably accepted theory goes like this: The impulse to do violence comes from within, but the type of violence it leads to may be inspired by an external source - like video games, movies or whatever.

A bigger contributor is probably that a person who spend a lot of time with video games tends to become somewhat disconnected from the rest of humanity, and this emotional distance from other people can make it easier to do violence on other people.

Only if it is a video game about violence. If it isn't than it does not promote violence. The graphics also have something to do with it. On PS3 the graphics are sooo amazing that a Rated M game about violence would be hypnotizing. It also depends on whose playing it.

Yes, they can. Being repeatedly exposed to violence via video games can send the signal that violence is okay. So, when confronted with a stressful situation, this person would be more apt to respond with violence. This happens in the same way a young person would start to dress and act like their favorite celebrity.

No. It depends on how young the player is.If their under 10 It might make them aggressive but not violent.
