My answer would be YES. Through my rough and tumble life as a young kid i took quite a few major hits to the chest, starting with a 20 ft fall out of a barn, landed flat on my chest, yes its true i landed on bales of hay, but it hurt like heck! Then at 14 i was hit by a car , while on a bicycle, going to my paper route, result, 4 cracked ribs, punctured lung, spleen torn if half and a broken nose, major trauma to my left chest area. Two years later i had pericarditus. they ran a catheter in my right arm to draw the fluid out of my pericardial sac, they said it was all taken care of and i should have NO more problems. Well, at 51 I had constrictive pericarditus, so they removed the pericardium do to the build up of hard calcium, I'm just over 2 years past that point now and have had chest pains (still) for over a year, I can tell I still have a problem, my doctors are working on it. I have an Echo and a Tread Mill/EKG too set for next month, Jan 2010. YES, I think Trauma to the chest can cause serious problems, I got them! I Hope my answer Good enough to answer your question. Mike at 53yrs :)
