Yes, it is possible to pickpocket someone in Morrowind. While in Sneak ode, creep up on the target NPC. If you are undetected the "swag bag" icon appears next to your stats in the bottom left of the screen. Press the spacebar (X-Box right trigger) while the icon is visible to attempt to pickpocket the NPC. Your sucess will depend on several things but is mainly dictated by your skill in Security. The higher your skill the less likely you are to be discovered and the more items you will find on a person. There are no guarantees you won't be caught, no matter how good your skills and sometimes you will be reported even if you do not take anything! It is very difficult to successfully pickpocket anyone. Save your game before you try it. Your Sneak skill does not play a part in whether the pickpocket is sucessfull, only in whether you are undetected when you initiate it. Wearing light boots or no boots at all will improve your sucess at sneaking.

to pickpocket in morrowind you need to first crouch, then approach the NPC you want to pickpocket. When you're next to the person, stay crouched and click A(spacebar for the PC i believe). You will automatically go into their inventory.

Notes:

1.Do not do this in front of anyone else. They will report you if they detect you, even if their not the one you're pickpocketing.

2.Pickpocketing relies on two things; security and sneak. Sneak will allow you to get up to the NPC without being detected, while security will actually be how good you will be at the pickpocketing itself.

3.DO NOT try to pickpocket guards at a low level. no explanation needed, just dont do it.

Crouch and walk up to someone rich looking [Make shure it doesnt break any guild rules.] The icon should be red and steal from them. DONT GET CAUGHT. Its not worth the money or the jail time USUALLY.

First, get your sneak skill way up. Second, if your not yet a Journeyman, then take off your boots (or shoes). Sneak up and be very careful. Make sure the gold "sneak" crosshair is dark (which means no one can see you) then take less important things at first. Once you are a master of sneak, feel free to take anything (or everything)

It's because you have too much bounty in that city. Go to jail or pay the fine, whichever. Afterwards, you're free to pickpocket away.
