The average asteroid is no bigger than a house, but there are millions that are the size of football fields. The smallest ones that we can detect are the size of boulders, and most orbit somewhere between Mars and Jupiter in the Main Belt. There are uncounted millions of small asteroids and meteoroids.

Estimated approximate number of asteroids larger than a given diameter:

100 m - 25 000 000

300 m - 4 000 000

500 m - 2 000 000

1 km - 750 000

3 km - 200 000

5 km - 90 000

10 km - 10 000

30 km - 1 100

50 km - 600

100 km- 200

200 km- 30

300 km- 5

500 km- 3

900 km- 1

The four largest contain 51% of the mass of all the asteroids. (Ceres alone is larger than the dwarf planet Pluto and more than 1/3 the mass of all athe asteroids)
