15 gigabytes of free hard drive space is recommended, I believe. My program is currently using 17.2 gigabytes of my hard drive.
Yes, it needs ALOT of space on your hard drive. You have to INSTALL the game in order to play the game. The CD just contains the installer.

Even on a flash drive, ssd or smart/thumb drive, as long as it's connected to a PC it can run. If the drive itself isn't fast enough to properly run the game you may need to copy it to a PC, but otherwise its location doesn't matter.
