You can if it's old or new by checking if it has a blue ray player. Also in the owners manual if it has one is somewhere in the credits in it, it should say what year that one was made if it was made over a year before I think it's the old model.PS3 models that are older have 4 USB ports they all had Blue ray players. The newer models have 2 USB ports and the newest the PS3 slim is smaller and lighter than the older models hence the name PS3 slim.

Some of the distinguishing markers to look for in a Marlin model 60 are whether the ejector is casted into the feedthroat and the firing pin style. By identifying these parts you can determine if the gun is an old style or a new style.

Only the old first couple of PS3 models with 4 USB port could play PS2 games all models play PlayStation games. New PS2 models tell on the Box they come in that they do not play the PS2 games, but there are plenty of used cheap PS3 games
You can buy a new PlayStation 3 and get a credit for your old PS3 from certain stores like Gamestop. You can just buy a new PS3 from anywhere and keep your old PS3. If you want to get your's fixed you can return it to PlayStation and they will fix or replace it for about half the cost of a new PS3. Purchase the new PS3 320 GB Model + the Move Bundle for USA $400 or the new PS3 160 GB Model for USA $299.99 from most online or retail stores. Some store will offer a trade in for your old PS3, but may be little more than you would save on taxes from Amazon.com who will also take trade ins.
