Are you in a party or a raid group? If you are it could be that it's not your turn to loot. If you aren't in a party or raid, are you lagging? Do you bend down to loot and nothing happens? If you're lagging try restarting WoW, if that doesn't work see what programs are running in the background and shut down unnecessary ones. If you're still having problems restart your computer.
In addition, was the title/name of the mob gray when you killed it? Or was it golden? If it was grayed out to you, it means someone hit the mob before you and it was not counted as your kill so you cannot loot it. Also some mobs don't necessarily drop loot, NPCs (guards and towns people of the opposing faction) as well as other players will not drop loot.
