First of all i think you meant;How does a flood start? Dont worry though!

It almost always starts with a huge amount of rain, but there are many things that help it along. If the ground is hard, then the water just sits on top, but if the ground is soft, the water seeps in. However there is only so much water that can be stored, and when the ground is full, it acts like a sponge and squeezes it all out. If you lived at the bottom of a hill, or a mountain Ext. it would be more likely to flood, because it is easy for the rain to run down. Another way a flood can start is when the rain flows into a river, and bursts the bank. Hope that helped! ;)

Excess water, usually from a heavy rainstorm, and, what most people don't realize is; bridges aren't high enough from the water line so the water hits the bridge and travels sideways instead of downstream.
