You place the mask on the stone alter and then watch the ending clip. all returns to normal and Abigail and jack are de-zombified. afterwards, when John is dead after the events of RDR, Seth is seen stealing the mask from the alter again, and the undead rise again, including John. However, John made sure he was buried with some Holy Water, so that even though he has the appearance of a zombie, he still has a man's soul, so he can climb, use guns, ride horses etc. this forms an ending similar to RDR in which there is a free-roam to finish all that needs finishing.
I would say Undead Nightmare is a DLC because you die in The 1st Red Dead Redemption...
Only if you want to download the game, if you buy the undead nightmare disc the no you don't need the original red dead redemption.
For the game of the year edition you get both the original Red Dead Redemption, and undead nightmare.
when the game starts up just press singleplayer and then press on undead nightmare instead of red dead redemption
Yes you can play them on most game types but they will not be able to play undead overrun with you unless they have the undead nightmare game/dlc as well.
