Gold farmers create accounts and that make programs that play the game for them - bots. These bots usually collect raw materials - such as ores, food, logs, dragons bones, etc. They then sell these items in game on the Grand Exchange and create huge stock piles of gp, which they them sell for real cash on web sites. These web sites are dangerous as they often contain viruses and spyware, and many of them dont even deliver the gold to your account.

Botting and selling gp is completely against Jagex rules and your account will be banned if you are caught. Jagex is extremely capable monitoring the movement of large quatities of gp and it is highly advisable to stick to the rules.
