Desperado (Feral) Chaos is an extremely hard battle - but not impossible.
Firstly - your party.
I would recommend:
Either Zidane or Kuja.
Any of Terra, Jecht, Exdeath, Warrior of Light.
Other useful characters: Lightning, Yuna, Tifa, Prishe, Sephiroth, Onion Knight, Squall, Cloud of Darkness, Emperor.
This was my party:
Kuja, Terra, Lightning, Kain, Warrior of Light.
Explaination:
Kuja is my favourite character for 2 primary reasons:
1) He doesn't need to be anywhere near you to hit you with powerful HP attacks
2) He is very hard to hit. He can glide and can move while using almost any attack meaning you can apply pressure with attacks and set yourself up from a comfortable distance for another attack.
Terra:
1) Meltdown can do strong tracing - for a long time.
2) Tornado keeps a safe distance and is lethal.
3) Strong attacks all round and good chains (Ultima, Firaga)
Lightning:
1) Powerful and very quick.
2) Strong BRV attacks
3) Can add BRV without even being close (Cure and Cura)
Kain:
1) Mainly because he is in my opinion just immensely strong and hard to kill but I only used him for the manikins in the gateways.
Warrior Of Light:
1) Shield of Light can save your life!
2) BRV attacks chain into strong HP attacks (Bitter End & Rune Saber).
Tactics:
Kuja up first.
SPAM ON ULTIMA!
If Chaos gets too close then Force Symphony or Flare Star.
Whatever you do - stay in the air and constantly move about. DON'T BOTHER WITH BRV ATTACKS!
I killed Chaos with just Kuja without losing 1 HP. believe me with Kuja - its easy.
Zidane:
Similar tactics and use Shift Break rather that Ultima and grand Lethal rather than Force Symphony/Flare star.
Terra/Jecht/Exdeath/Warrior of Light:
Go on defensive first:
Terra: Tornado
Jecht: Jecht Block & Trimuphant Grasp to get out of trouble.
Exdeath: Omni-Block
Warrior of Light: Wait for a BRV attack or a rush and then Shield of Light.
Continue and when Chaos's HP is low start offensive:
Terra: More Tornados & Fire>Firaga & Meltdown
Jecht: Jecht Beam & Ultimate Jecht Shot & Jecht Blade.
Exdeath: Delta Attack and follow ups to blocks.
Warrior of Light: Ultimate Shield and Shield of Light.
