How do you change a headlight in a 2005 Pontiac pursuit?

i found an article for jbody z24's which required removing the entire dashboard to switch the light. two torx screws near the wheel, and the whole thing basically pulls straight out.

If it's like my '00 Grand Am- (I assume the GP and Bonneville are similar) jack the car up, and remove the splash guard under the front end; some of this is part of the wheel well, so you might want to remove a front tire.

Get under the car and I believe it's held on with a hand-screw.

If you want to take out the light housing follow these instructions. There is also a helpful link in related links.

• Remove the black plastic cover (flat head screw driver and needle nose pliers work well)
• Use the screw driver to lift up the head of the black plastic bolts and then either pull them out by hand or with the needle nose pliers.

• Note: make sure you take the entire plastic bolt out, there are two parts

• Remove black plastic cover

• Remove the two bolts/screws (2 for each headlight)

• Carefully pull the headlight housing out

• The bulbs will still be attached so be careful

• Twist the light bulb socket (to the left) and pull it out.

• Repeat the steps in reverse order if replacing just the housing

If you want to replace the bulbs:

• Once the socket is out of the housing, gently pull the bulb out. You may want to use a rag/glove/towel in case bulb breaks.

• Take a new bulb and (using rag/glove/towel) push the bulb back into the socket and then repeat the above steps in reverse.

If you open the hood, you will see 2 bolts above the headlight assembly. remove the 2 bolts and lift the entire headlight assembly. as you are pulling the aasbly out you will see where the halogen light insert goes in. remove old light, install new, insert back in and reassemble. be careful not to touch glass part of light with hands, may shoten or end life of bulb. going off memory, have not replaced in my 99 sunfire gt in a while. hope this helps. How to Change Headlights on 2002 Pontiac Grand AM Be sure you have the correct Light Bulbs prior to starting this project. Tools I required for project. Flat head Screwdriver, Pliers, 1 each Bandage Estimated time required the first time 30 miniutes. You can do better. With Engine off and Key removed from ignition Open Hood, Standing in front of either Headlight Passenger or Drivers Side. Look Down ( Locate two each Tork Screws for aiming Head Lights DO NOT Turn but for reference only ) They are bright silver in appearance. There is a Black Plastic Cowling over Upper Front Engine compartment covering the Headlight Assembly Surfaces. Locate the four ( 4 ) Two piece Plastic Expansion Fasteners Note Total Eight ( 8 ) for full Cowling ( With Flat Screw Drive pry out Center Plastic expansion bolt ) Remove second part releasing the Plastic Cowling. Fold back the plastic cowling Look down at exposed Headlight Assembly Surface ( Locate two each Tork Screws for aiming Head Lights DO NOT Turn but for reference only ) There are two ( 2 ) Metal Locking tabs directly behind the Tork Screws for aiming Head Lights. With Fingers or Pliers: Press Down and back to release Metal Clip and pull up unlocking Headlight Assembly. The Full Headlight Assembly will come forward and out to expose the rear removable lights. Unlock the Black Plastic retainer. Replace the desired bulb without touching the bulb's glass surface. Reverse Process to re-install.

Open the engine compartment hooe, look for a lever next to the headlight box assy on top. It is a flat piece of bar stock bent 90 degrees. Pull up on it. This releases the entire headlight box assembly as a unit. Slide it forward as a unit. All bulbs are now accessabble. If the box has trouble releasing, push down slightly on the retaining bar you pulled up on earlier. The bar is open at the bottom but is a square hole in the middle. These both capture extruded pieces on the light box assy. holing thim in place.

Remember to remove 10 mm bolt on top of bracket, bolt that is towards center of vehicle. Great advice!
