How do you create a basement on sims 3?

#1 you must have a foundation. (If the house is already built, and there's a foundation already, you're in luck.) #2 Click to make the ground go down about 12 times. Then you build a wall around the floor of the basement (It makes it look nicer), add the floor, stairs, lights, then BAM! You have a basement!

First of all you go to the tool kind of mode, then you click on basements then when you click on it and try it on the grass of your house you will see blue blocks. After you have done that you go under ground by clicking on the icon of a house on the bottom left hand side of your page, click on the bottom bit of the house and underground you will have a sort of room. Yes, but it's a little tricky. Start with a foundation. Then, delete all but the outside edge of that, leaving it one wide and hollow in the middle. Using the connecting stairs, start in this clear area, and go down three levels. One stair, one level, and from there, another, and from there, the third. Then delete the stairs (sledgehammer tool). Using the level terrain tool (in build mode), level all of the area inside the foundation to the level you reached with the lowest stair. This will make the basement the correct level for the stairs, and walls. You can add interior walls, as needed, and MUST have stairs. Try the regular ones first, to be sure you are at the right level, but you can change them for connecting ones of you like the look of one of those better. Color walls and floor as usual. You can only place a picture on a foundation "wall" using the "moveObjects on" cheat. If not familiar with that, here is how it works. Before building, in the neighborhood, press CTRL+SHIFT+C - all together. in the little line that comes up at the top, type in, exactly this (without the quotation marks) - "boolProp testingCheatsEnabled true". Then press enter. Now, in the lot, hit the CTRL+SHIFT+C again, and enter "move Objects on" - again, no quotes. Press enter. Once you have placed the pics, open the window again, and enter "moveObjects off". Otherwise, it can mess up doors, and allow things to be placed where the sims can't use them. To turn off the main cheat, in the hood, open the window and type the reverse of what you did before - "boolProp testingCheatEnabled false". No quotes. That's an easy basement.

Go into build mode, click on the picture of the shovel & dig into the ground until you have a flat floor. then add steps to the regular floor & you've got yourself a basement.
