How do you defeat the Minecraft enderdragon?

The best way to kill the Ender Dragon is to destroy the Ender Crystals that heal it (preferably with a bow or maybe snowballs as well since these crystals are on obsidian pillars), then focus your attention to killing the Ender Dragon. Make sure to have your bow enchanted with Infinity. If you're having problems getting the Ender Dragon close look away for a few seconds, it should come to you. Also the Ender Dragon can destroy any blocks apart from obsidian and End stone.

Ok. First off, make sure you have very strong gear in your inventory. Here is a recommended inventory setup:

- Full diamond armor with feather falling enchanted boots. Highly enchanted iron armor will also do.

- A diamond sword, an enchanted iron one will also do.

- A diamond pickaxe, enchantments not required but help

- A stack of cobblestone

- A bow, power and infinity enchantments are recommended.

- 1-2 stacks of arrows. This is not needed if your bow has infinity.

- A potion of healing or regeneration

- Lots of food

- A few enderpearls

- A piston (You will see why later in this guide)

- A lever (Will see why lower in the guide)

That should be about all that you need.

Assuming you already found the end portal, jump in. If you havent, you will need to find a stronghold. Look at the bottom of this post if you have not.

You will appear on a small obsidian platform in the end. If you are sourrounded in blocks, mine a stair case up until you find land. If you are on land, then good. If you see land in the distance from your platform, throw an enderpearl or built a bridge (not recommended) to get there.

Once you are on land, you will probably notice that endermen are spawning around you everywhere. Try not to look at them. It can be hard, but you will probably be looking up for most of the fight anyways.

Looking around, you will probably see some obsidian towers with purple crystals at the top. These are ender crystals.

Your first step, shoot the ender crystals and they will explode. You can also build up to the top of the tower and punch it, but beware the explosion could knock you off, and the dragon might tear your build down and send you flying. You do not have to break the crystals, but I highly recommend doing so, as they heal the ender dragon and make the fight take much longer.

If you have not yet seen the dragon, look in the sky, and you will see it flying around. Now lets talk about how it will act:

The dragon will for the most part be flying around. At random times however, it will swoop down at you to attack. Be prepared for this, especially if you are on a tower. It will tear away any blocks except obsidian and endstone and bedrock in its way instantly. If you are on a tower, the dragon could send you flying, which could cause death to you by fall damage if the tower is too high.

When you see the dragon swooping down at you, either shoot it with an arrow (should not be too hard, as it swoops in a straight line) or hit it with your sword if it is close enough. If you hit it with an arrow, it will retreat back in the sky and loose a little bit of its large bank of health. If you hit it with a sword, it will also retreat, but beware that it will probably be able to hit you too since you will need to get very close. It will then fly around again.

That is one of the most basic parts of this fight, you will need to repeat this a lot. You will notice the health bar at the top of the screen with get smaller too. That is how much health it has left. You may be dismayed to find that your hits/shots only make scratches to it, but hey, its a boss.

Now for another big problem of your fight. The endermen.

The endermen are very easy to provoke, and once you provoke one, it will be easy to provoke more while trying to fight it off. They could put an end to your life very quickly if you have large groups after you. If you are finding yourself being chased by too many endermen, run and quickly build a tiny shelter with a 2 high endstone roof, so you can be safe while fighting off endermen, and the dragon can't tear it down.

There is not much more too this fight, but I will explain a few more things.

You can attack when the dragon is circling around in the air, or when it swoops down. It is easier to hit it when it swoops down, but there is always the risk of getting hit or provoking endermen. It however, is harder to hit in the air.

That is pretty much it of the fight. Repeat those steps until the dragon dies.

When it dies, it will create a portal to the overworld with a dragon egg on top.

The dragon egg can be used as a trophy for defeating the dragon. However, it will teleport if you try to break it, and it can even be sent to the overworld through the portal. The easiest way to break it is to put endstone over the portal (the actual portal glow, not the frame) to temp block access to it. Then place a piston next to the egg that is facing the egg. Careful not to teleport the egg when doing this! Put a lever next to the piston and activate it. The egg will break and fall as a drop on to the covered portal. Picked it up, and collect anything else to made that you want to take back. It can be fun to take a stack or 2 of end stone, just as a souvenir.

Once you are done, break the cover on the portal and jump in. It will show the credits, and then take you back to the overworld at your bed.

You cannot tame the Ender Dragon. It is intended as a boss mob which you can fight once per world in the End in the PC edition of minecraft.
