Talk to him and change supplies. If you have or wearing the armor in your apparel just swap it over to his box as you would with ammo/guns etc and he wears it automaticly.
If you have or find a dead Brotherhood of steel Power armor he can wear it even if you cant yet. This will make him near indestructible.
