It is an overheating issue. Too much gaming, keeping the xBox in an area where it cannot get a good airflow causes this.

To fix it, you can do one of three things:

  1. Move the xbox to off of the carpet or anything of the like, to a shelf where the air vents are not blocked.
  2. Send it in the Microsoft, if you still have the warranty. If it's out, there's plenty of online services willing to fix your xBox.
  3. If the warranty is out, and you feel brave enough, you can take it apart and fix it yourself. There are thousands of help guides to do this, including upgrading your heatsinks or elevating your motherboard.
