Is that possible? Anyway........You need to keep leveling in battle. When you hit an "Overdrive Mode" and the pictures of a character are the same and the number corresponding is "7" on the DMW.
Get yourself a Materia of your choosing and combine it (Using the Item Tome from one of the missions (I forget which ><) with fat chocobo feathers, Hi-potions and Elixirs. That's how I did it.

There's an item/accessory that you gain at some point during the game---I don't remember when, unfortunately---Called the 'Adaman Bangle'. When equipped, it sets your HP limit to 99,999

There are also items that increase your damage, AP, and MP limits. They are called 'Brutal', 'Black Cowl', and 'Gold Hairpin', respectively.
