The Joe23 strategy: Before Jack arrives, dig holes around all the villagers and TRAP THEM. This is a good strategy, as only the REAL Jack will be free to wander around while the other mischievous villagers can't move (Unless you free them like some kind of imbecile. Jack will disappear every time you give or deny him candy. Denying him candy will result in turning your clothes raddy, your accessory into a pumpkin, or a random, non-tool item into a jack-in-the-box.
