There are several ways to get crowns in Wizard101. A few of them include:

• A friend can send them
• Using a one time friend code
• Inviting friends to subscribe
• There are occasionally codes printed in magazines such as Beckett's Massive Online Gamer. These are unique one time codes, and cannot be used more than once ever. If you find someone giving out their old codes, they are not going to work.
• There are occasional in game promotional commercials. At the end of the commercial, there will be a one time code.
• Buy them with a subscription
• Redeeming gift cards
• Codes from promotional emails from KingIsle.com

Warnings:

• Never give your user name and password to anyone
• Never log in under a user name or password that someone gives you to make a transaction. They are just trying to steal your info.
• Never accept an offer to trade goods for codes. Codes can only be used once. They will take your item, and you will be out of luck.
• Wizards101 does not have crowns cheats on their site.

You can't get free Crowns, but you can get extra crowns when making a subscription or Crown purchase by using a friend code.

Invite friends using their invite a friend program. for every friend you invite who buys $6 or more worth of crowns or membership, you and them will get free crowns! Also, there are many survey sites………if you're willing to do the time and give out an email to almost every company on the planet…………if you do this, make a gmail that you will never go on with a fake name. you need no personal info whatsoever to make a Google account :P

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure (sadly) the only way to get free Crowns is by inviting a friend through Email. Also I think they have to say yes for it to count. Sorry :(
