How do you get happy sonic in sonic 3 and knuckles?

You have to have the genesis game called "Sonic and Knuckles". This cartridge is special because it allows another cartridge to be placed on top of it. You place "Sonic 3" on top of "Sonic and Knuckles" and you get to play as Knuckles. Same goes with "Sonic 2".

Well, I will tell you how to do it on Sonic & Knuckles (I think Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles are VERY alike!)

Step 1: Start the game on Sonic & Knuckles, you should start out at Mushroom Hill Zone 1

Step 2: Go to the first Pulley or Swing or the thing that you grab and keep pressing down

Step 3: On it, press "Left Left Left, Right Right Right, Up Up Up" you should hear the chime which is a Ring Noise (On the Sega you use the Original Controller, on the Gamecube, you use the D-Pad which is on the left of the C-Pad)

Step 4: Press Start and press A (A is the B button on the Game Cube)

Step 5: When the "SEGA" logo is FULLY off the screen, hold A and press Start

(You should be at the Level Select Screen)

Step 6: As you can see, there are 2 Lave Reef Zones, the one with Zone 3 & 4, that is our main thing

Step 7: Go to Lava Reef Zone 4, it is actually the Hidden Palace Zone disguised as Lava Reef Zone 4 (Hidden Palace is basically just Sonic facing off with Knuckles, it's not very intresting)
