How do you get meat in virtual villagers 4?

You get meat, chicken, ham & pepperoni as gifts from Farm Town neighbors.

If you discover you don't have enough of an item to start production, you can request it from your neighbors. You can also exchange gifts that you do not need to ones that you do.

I have never gotten meat.. I only get fish berries and fruit from the tree. You can cook things in the pot also
