How do you get though the trial of fear in Starfox Adventures?

The handbook gives instructions to: "The Test of Fear is an unsettling collection of illusions. As raptors run and leap toward Fox and a shadowy image of General Scales make a startling appearance, a red line will sway back and forth in a meter at the top of the screen. You must keep the line in the meter's shaded area as you face your fears by pressing Left and Right on the Control Stick."

So in summary, you use the control stick to keep the red line inside the green area
