In "Mass Effect 2," building and maintaining a relationship with a squad member involves engaging in conversations, completing their loyalty missions, and making choices that align with their values. Once the game is completed, you can continue your relationship in "Mass Effect 3" by importing your save file. This allows you to further develop the relationship and experience new interactions based on the choices made in the previous game. Remember, the relationships can significantly influence the storyline and character interactions in the sequel.
Mass Effect 2 is only a single player game. Mass Effect 3 however has provided a multiplayer function to it.

If you played Mass Effect 1 the second game imports your old game save, so it would depend on how you played Mass Effect 1 as to whether or not Kaiden is alive. If you did not play Mass Effect 1, then the game will default to the character with the opposite gender to Shepard. So Ashley will be there with a male Shepard, Kaiden for a female one. Below is a link which has the important decisions you make in 1 and their effect in the sequel.
