Punch a wood block, which is the brown, white, light brown, or dark brown block making up the tree-like structures in the game. You can easily find trees in your first few minutes of the game, unless you spawn in a desert, extreme hills, or plains biome. However, if you do spawn in one of these three biomes, you should easily be able to soon find a forest, taiga, or jungle biome, unless you spawn in one of the three no-tree biomes first listed with the large biomes world type on.
