How do you pop the balloon on Animal Crossing City Folk?

In the original Animal Crossing, you have to follow the balloon, keeping it onscreen until it gets caught in a tree. You can then shake the present loose. In Wild World and City Folk, the player must purchase a slingshot and shoot the balloon down to retrieve the present.

You need the slingshot to pop the balloons. You can buy the slingshot once Nook has upgraded his store to Nook´n´Go (or bigger).
