There is no official way to reserve a name for a future character. Unofficially, you can just make a new character with the name you want. That is the only way to reserve a name on a server. Beware though....if someone wants that name, and you have not logged into it in a long time, then they can ask Blizzard gamemasters to force a name change on your character.

There is not really any way that this site can answer this question. You would have to ask "Woody" themselves.
There may be a few problems, first your name. If you are being alerted with "That name is already in use" then another player has created a toon with that name and you cannot create the character, also if you experiencing bad latency you character will not be created.

There is only one World of Warcraft. It has several expansions though. They are (in order of when they were released): Burning Crusade (which is included with the original WoW), Wrath of the Lich King, Cataclysm, and Mists of Pandaria (not released yet).
The MMORPG World of Warcraft is worth billions of dollars. There are currently over 10 million people with active accounts, plus all of the paid character services like realm transfers, name changes and faction changes.
