Warcraft 3 maps are by default melee maps unless you add more Triggers or player specific units, custom units...etc on the map...on the bottom right corner of the World Editor it tells you if it's either a melee map or a custom map (scenario) and the reasons why. Same goes for Frozen Throne.
Go to your Warcraft Maps Directory which is in C:\Program Files\Warcraft III\Maps\ then find the map that you want to rename. Right-click then 'Rename'. From there, you should be able to rename your map.
You'll need to have Warcraft III and its expansion Frozen Throne installed on your computer first. Then you can get the map from getdota.com, and transfer it to the Map/Download (create that folder if you don't have one) folder in your Frozen Throne maps folder. You should be able to open up Frozen Throne and play it, then.
To play DotA one must simply own the game Warcraft 3 and the Frozen throne expansion. The user must open a battlenet account (ingame) and download the DotA map. Maps can be downloaded from getdota.com After downloading the map be sure to move the file into the Warcraft 3 maps folder. Do this by double-clicking "my computer" and navigating to the proper folder and then dragging the file in.

Defense of the Ancients cannot be installed, as it is a map, not a separate game.First, you need to have Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne (Expansion pack. You need Warcraft: Reign of Chaos to install it)..... Then download the version of DotA you want. After downloading, go to C:\Program Files\Warcraft III, or wherever you've chosen to install the game, and then copy the map you downloaded and paste it into the Maps folder. You're finished then, but be sure you have the World Editor for DotA. You can download it from websites, but some CDs have map editors included. After downloading or pasting the map, open all the folders and find the "BNU (Battle.net) Update", and then click it. After the update, copy the BNU Update, paste it to the folder you placed DotA in, and you're done. Just run Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, go to single player, then custom game, and you'll find the map in the menu at the top.
Open the map using the "World Editor" program that came with WarCraft III.Files ending in.w3m (Reign of Chaos map)and.w3x (The Frozen Throne map)can both be opened by The Frozen Throne's WorldEditor.*The world editor is the blank icon named worldeditlocated inside on your/Warcraft III/ Folder. But if your looking for a darker side of WC3 map editing. . .(Reverse Engineering a map)you check this page:http://zyx-rhythm-dos.blogspot.com/
When you have downloaded them. They will automatically work.
You can download maps at www.epicwar.com.
Custom maps in minecraft can usually be downloaded for free.
If you're using ROC then none of the DOTA maps will work. One of the patches destroyed the functionality of all the ROC versions and only the Frozen Throne versions were fixed and continued. DOTA itself is a very complex and carefully designed gameplay mode, it has taken many people years to get this far with it. If you want to make a map like that you are facing a long road of trial and error before coming up with anything new and successful.
Just drag all the maps from the torrent to the WC3 map folder.
