You must be in a game and not in your Armoury. You can then press or tap X on the xbox controller and you will swing your hammer or sword which ever you have selected from your weapon room by pressing start. To fire you pistol or rifle you must tap Y on your controller and it will fire. You will have to be at a certain point in the campaign to use a weapon though.
