If i were you, I wouldn't specifically go "searching" for wolves. Unlike me, don't waste hours looking for them. While they are most commonly found in forests and snowy areas, its best to just go with your normal business. I ran into a whole pack just right outside my house. But after losing 4 wolves, I think its not worth it. They're so hyper and jump around and lose health every 5 minutes. It takes up so much pork chops and they eventually die anyways. My second wolf jumped through my window into my lava fall.
