In a traditional tug of war, there are typically two teams, each consisting of an equal number of players. The number of players can vary, but common team sizes range from 5 to 10 players on each side, resulting in a total of 10 to 20 players. However, in informal settings, team sizes can be adjusted based on the number of participants available.
Standard rules call for eight per team. Please see the Related link below for link to rules on Tug of War Teams.
It's "Tug-of-war". You can also use "Tug o' war."

Eastport Tug o' War Boley tug of war from Ireland was in the longest pull.
A game similar to tug of war is "tug of peace," where teams pull on opposite ends of a rope while trying to maintain balance and coordination. Another comparable game is "human tug of war," where players form a line and pull against each other. Both games involve teamwork, strategy, and physical strength, emphasizing collaboration and competition.
In a tug of war game, players can take on the positions of either being on the pulling team or the opposing team. The pulling team aims to pull the rope towards their side, while the opposing team tries to prevent them from doing so.
