One per user account on the console itself. If you want more than one save file for yourself, you need to login as another user or create an additional account from the Wii U home screen. The game does keep a save for every day you play so you can go back in time to retry any day you want to, however if you go back in time and finish the day, it will erase any progress made on any days after the day you skipped back to. So in effect you really only have one save for each user account.

There will not be a Pikmin released for the DS. Pikmin and Pikmin 2 were originally released by Nintendo exclusively for their GameCube console, however both games have been upgraded with the 'New Play Control!' to enable them to be played on the Nintendo Wii. Nintendo has confirmed they are working on Pikmin 3 for the Wii which is coming out somewhere near the end of 2009 or beginning of 2010. There will definitely not be a Pikmin game for the Nintendo DS. There is only one planned release of Pikmin, and that is Pikmin 3 coming out for the Wii. No other announcements have been made, but many have stated that there will be no Pikmin DS. More details on the 'New Play Control!' and its release dates are shown on the related link.
