How many stars do you need to unlock wario in Mario ds?

You need 31 stars. Many people say that you only need 30, but you really need 31. You need 30 to unlock Dire Dire Docks. Then you need to get the first star, Board Bowser's Sub. Then you can beat Bowser in the Fire Sea, and you will get the key to the second floor. Go into the door with the red on it as Luigi and grab a Power Flower. Go into the picture of Wario. Go through the course and fight Chief Chilly. Then you will get the key to Wario's door.
