For neon gas 99,999 % the price is probable approx. 100 US $ for 40 L.
Now (2016) the price of neon is cca. 33 USD/100 g.

neon is a colourless element
Neon's physical appearance is it has a redish-orangish glow that comes out of the object. It is also very bright from the Ne+NeAR+NeH+HeNe.....
Well, there are a few answer which would satisfy this question, first being, Where was the neon element coming from? If it's imported from China or other countries, we get taxed a tremendous amount. Another, depends on the size of the sign. If you have a sign that reads... "Welcome" or even "STORE NAME HERE" then it would be a lot cheaper, naturally, because rather than having a huge full window sign with all those letters, a smaller sign with fewer would require less neon to light it. Thus, driving the cost of the neon element down.....
Neon is a none metal element. atomic number of it is 10.
