I thought i needed to buy new ignition lock but if you take your VIN vehicle identification number to your gm dealer with registration and drivers licence they will contact head office and tell them the key code for new keys to be made for 20.00 not 300.00 with labour.
This may be true but keep in mind if you have aftermarket locks or the locks have already been changed by prvious owner due to simmalar problem, or mechanical problem with locks themslves you will not beable to get keys from dealer unless you buy new lock tumblers, or pay a lock smith to rekey your car.

Ignition keys have changed over the years. You can no longer go to the hardware store and get spare keys made. New vehicles require computer chips inside the key before the vehicle will start. These must be purchased at the dealership. The cost for these keys may range from $75 up to $125 per key.

Yes, exact fit! Just change the ignition key cylinder to retain use of same keys
Lost ignition keys for newer vehicles can be obtained from the vehicle dealership. Lost keys for a 1978 Honda Accord will require the replacement of the ignition.
Are the keys in the ignition? If so all you have to do is take them out when you open the door.
They do have ignition keys. You must have the key on your person for the start button to work.
