In Red dead redemption for Xbox 360 how do you get a posse?

You press the select button or back button and then scroll over to the next page and select a player you want to invite to your posse or to start a new posse, click the "send posse invite" option and there you go

Only possible in free roam in multiplayer. Click on whoever you wish to invite and select "Propose New Posse" and hope they accept. On the other hand, if you want to request to join an existing posse, click on someone within said posse and click "Request to Join".
