In pokemon emerald which is the best starter?

Number one: Treeko

Number two: Torchic

I would not pick Mudkip.

Torchic. While Treeko is the fastest and has the best Critical Hit Ratio, overall I believe Torchic is the best choice. Its final form isn't quite as fast as a Sceptile, but overall its more powerful and has just as if not wider a move range. While it may strugle with a couple gyms, its very easy to level up tahnks to all the bugs and normal types in the game along the roads and in the possesion of the trainers. Actually, youll rarey have much of a problem with the road trainers as long as your away from the ocean areas. Youll find by the time you come accross a trainer that has a super effective type against it, most of the time if you train it properly its level will be high enough so its stats overcome it. Mudkip is a little annoying and boring to train. Marshstomp is good, it does actually lack very much disadvantage due to the lack of super awesome grass types besides Breloom and Sceptile, but like i said, its boring as it gets to train, looks kind of like a deformed Quagsire, and its attacking stats kinda suck without EVing it all to heck. Also, never use rare candys. Bad plan. They give you a level, but trust me, your stats on any pokemon come out better without them.

I reccommend:

Blaziken

Breloom

Sharpeedo or Milotic (Though Kingdra and Tentacruel are very worthy options)

Cradily (with endurance combo)

Manetric

Aggron/Salamence/Wobbafette/Camerupt

I think thats right if i remember correctly. Properly trained and with the proper move sets, won't be much that'll mess with you.
