The game is rated Mature and it can only be purchased by adults, yet it is played by many individual much younger in spite of the Blood and Gore, intense violence, and strong language

No not the PS3 and Xbox 360 games that are M rated, maybe the T rated game for Nintendo DS. The reading level of the games instructions is past the ability of most 8 year old's vocabulary. That does not mean that there are not 8 year old playing it, I'm sure there are.

honestly i have a son who plays black ops and he is 12, so its yes and no. yes if

the child can be mature about the game and bad if you gave it to a kid who spends his saturday nights going WAPAHHH!!! in their parents basement

No, there is a lot of violence and swearing. Only buy this game if you allow your child to play games like this.
