I wouldn't say that he's terribly hard. He's certainly easier than Meta Knight.

To beat Dedede, you can do 1 of 2 things. First, sometimes, he will bounce around swinging his hammer, causing two stars to appear. You can grab a star, wait till Triple D stops bouncing, then throw a star at him. Or, wait until he dives towards you, then ground pound his back.

When you hit him with a star or ground pound his back, the thing that controls his puppet strings comes down. The controller thing has 4 buttons. You must grab one to pull it off. Do this 3 more times, and you will have won the fight!
